The cafe

On the corner, where the main street bends

Dwellingup is a small town in the jarrah forest, about twenty five minutes up the hill from Pinjarra. The Munda Biddi and the Bibbulmun both run through it, the Hotham Valley trains pull out from the station, and Lane Poole Reserve is ten minutes down the road. Most people passing through end up on McLarty Street, and a fair few of them end up in here.

Blue Wren is a locally owned and run cafe. Inside there is a wood fire, mismatched timber tables and chairs, and a good deal of clutter that has been collected rather than bought as a set. Out the back there is a covered garden with a teapot tree in it, and a cubby for the kids.

The kitchen does breakfast and lunch, and the cabinet gets filled each morning with whatever has come out of the oven. Cakes, slices, tarts, pies and sausage rolls, all made here.

What's on

Six things worth knowing before you walk in

Breakfast and lunch

Both, every day of the week. Come in at eight for a coffee and something cooked, or roll through at one for a proper feed.

Baked here, not bought in

Cakes, pastries, pies and sausage rolls are made on the premises. The cabinet changes with whatever came out of the oven that morning.

Gluten free and vegan

Not an afterthought. There is a shelf in the cake cabinet given over to gluten free, and vegan options run through the menu.

Dogs are welcome

In the outdoor areas, on a lead, and not left on their own. Plenty of shade out the back for them while you eat.

Dine in or take away

Sit in the garden, take a seat by the wood fire, or grab the lot in a bag and keep going up the trail.

Catering

Cakes, slices and tarts by the platter for whatever you have on. Give us a ring and tell us the numbers.

Open every public holiday except Christmas Day.

The cabinet

Whatever came out of the oven this morning

Carrot cake, cheesecakes, lemon tart, caramel slice, brownies and tarts, plus the pies and sausage rolls. The top shelf is given over to gluten free, so there is usually more than one thing on it.

The board

Everything that goes in a cup

This is the board that hangs behind the counter, written out in full. Soy, almond and oat are all there, and so are vanilla, caramel and hazelnut if you want something in it. Tea comes as a pot for one or two.

There is a babyccino for the small ones and a kids milkshake, which between them have kept a lot of families going on the way back from Lane Poole.

First time at Blue Wren Café and I'll definitely be back. Had the Eggs Hollandaise Croissant for lunch and really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, good coffee and a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Gluten Free Caramel Slice was really nice! They also had a gluten free passionfruit cheesecake

Been here a couple of time and always had great food and not too dear either.

Quaint, Quirky. Olde worlde. Vintage decor with eclectic range of dining tables and chairs, it's not short on light hearted atmosphere. Great outdoor area, and garden, with a cubby! We were greeted with a smile and cheerful service. Good friendly country Cafe, highly recommended.
